YARMOUTH -- Bradford Russell Adams, 89, of Yarmouth, died on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in the Maine Medical Center and spent a short time at the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough. He was born in Boston, Mass., on Jan. 4, 1921, the son of the late Earle R.W. Adams and Mildred Giddings Adams. He graduated from Deering High School and attended Bates College and North Eastern University. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Adams had worked for many years at Nissen Bakery and than retired after 18 years from George Business Forms of Portland.
Brad had been a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Yarmouth, the American Legion of Yarmouth, a past president and honorary member of the Woodfords Club of Portland, an honorary member of Casco Lodge #36 of Yarmouth and a 32nd degree mason belonging to the Maine Consistory. He was also a past commodore of Center Board Yacht Club, South Portland, former member of Central Men's Club, Yarmouth, and a founding member of Downeast Ship Model Guild.
Following retirement, Brad spent long hours repairing and building ship models. The most prized model was the three masted schooner, Abergale, which took five years to complete.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marguerite Armstrong Adams of Yarmouth; one son, Bradford Nissen Adams, one daughter, Charlotte (Missy) Adams Asen; two step-sons, Maxwell D. Lewis and his wife Nora of Pennsylvania and Donald F. Lewis and his wife Debra of Colorado; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; and sister-in-law, Joan Orne and her husband Robert of Connecticut.
Graveside and Masonic services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 88, Falmouth. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland.
