Kenneth Don Gordon, 69, of DeKalb died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Hines VA Hospital in Maywood, IL.

He was born to the late Callie Gordon on May 26, 1948 in Leland, MS. Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as Combat Infantry Sergeant in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971 and in the Army Reserves until 1975.

Kenneth graduated from Sycamore High School, where he was inducted into the Pete Johnson Hall of Fame for his excellent athletic achievements in Track and Field and in Football. Holding records for the 200 meter dash and the long jump for over 50 years and running. During his time as a member of the varsity football team, they remained undefeated, never losing a conference championship.

For over 20 years, Kenneth worked at Turner Brass Works in Sycamore until the company closed for business in the late 1990's. Ken continued work in livestock farming for several more years until his retirement in 2010.

Among Ken's favorite things to do were working out, barbecuing for his family and friends, heated debates about everything under the sun and spending quality time with his beloved cat Layla. He was very socially active in his senior living community providing camaraderie and help to many friends in need.

Kenneth is survived by his two children, Shellie Gordon, of Westland, MI. and Donald Gordon of Galena, IL.; two grandchildren, Kevin and Kellie Gordon of Michigan, two siblings, Lula Gordon and JoAnn Gill, both of DeKalb and a host of other family and friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gordon and his sisters, Margret Jones and Marie Madison.

A memorial service will take place at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore, IL. on Friday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m.

The visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
