Carl Anapol, 89, a man of great wit, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Sentara Nursing Center after a long illness. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Anapol moved to Portsmouth shortly after his marriage in 1940 to Helen Hillman. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Henrietta Anapol; two brothers and one sister. Mr. Anapol was a congregant of Gomley Chesed Synagogue. Retired from Allen Foods Inc. of St. Louis, Mo., he had been a member of many organizations and was a volunteer at Maryview Hospital. He was an avid golfer. Surviving Mr. Anapol are two daughters, Judith Anapol of Virginia Beach and Myra Waranch of Norfolk; one grandson, Adam Ross Waranch; two great-granddaughters, Kendra and Aryanna; two sisters-in-law, Terri Anapol of Philadelphia and Bernice Sandler of Miami, Fla.; nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Rachel Blachman. Mr. Anapol's family would like to extend a special thanks to Shirley Kearney for her devoted care during his illness and to the staff at Sentara Nursing Center in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the United Jewish Federation, the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society or The American Parkinson Disease Association. A funeral for Mr. Anapol will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Gomley Chesed Synagogue and Chevra Thilim Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to 388 Boush St., No. 108, Norfolk, VA 23510. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
