Mrs. Georgia Jeanette Belmar, 79, died April 5, 2018 at the Lynchburg Nursing Center, in Lynchburg, TN. She was born on January 30, 1939 to Thomas Monroe and Bessie Thelma Fletcher Woods in Cedar City, MO. Georgia grew up in the rural areas of central Missouri. She graduated with honors from Southern Boone County High School in Ashland, MO. Her accomplishments included being on the school newspaper staff, chorus, cast member of the junior play, and being elected May Queen during her senior year.
Georgia and her late husband, Charles W. Belmar, were married June 1, 1957 in St. Louis, MO. They were together for over 60 years until his death on January 11, 2018. In addition to managing the home, being a loving wife and mother, Georgia was the bookkeeper for Mr. Belmar’s construction and roofing business in St. Louis for many years. She and Charles owned and managed a hardware store in Salem, MO for a number of years. They settled in Rolla, MO where they lived for 40 years before moving to Huntsville, Alabama in 2014 to be near family. Georgia enjoyed growing vegetable and flower gardens, the sewing arts, and creating and painting crafts with her husband. Georgia’s true joy, however, was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Rolla, Missouri.
Georgia is survived by daughter Sandra Forrester and son-in-law, Mike of Taft, TN; daughter Patty Belmar of Anderson, SC; granddaughters Clara, Emily, Abigail, and Madeline McComb; sisters Betty McKim of Holts Summit, MO and Sharon Terry of Hartsburg, MO. Brother Thomas Leon Woods preceded her in death in 1983. Entombment will be at Valhalla Mausoleums in Huntsville, Alabama. A Life Celebration is planned during the month of June for both Georgia and Charles in their home state of Missouri with family and friends in attendance.
