Violet Bernadette “Bernie” Murphy, 72 of Canton, Missouri passed away, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

The daughter of Henry Louis “Peck” Riney and Leta Mildred McDaniel was born on June 10, 1945 in rural Derrahs, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Wayne “Jake” E. Murphy, Sr. on April 27, 1963 at Winfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2015.

Bernie was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She worked as an edger for the Phillips & Sons Sawmill in Williamstown and later retired from Charles Industries in Canton after many years. Bernie was the life of the party where ever she went and she would tell you so too. Through the years she hated when Jake played his music loud, however, in the next instance, she loved dancing with him to that loud music. For the past three years, Bernie missed her husband Jake so much. She loved having Friday night drinks with friends and family, and going to the casino. She loved seeing her grandkids any chance she got.

She is survived by her children, Teresa (Roger) Kerr of Huntsville, Il., Cindy (Tim) Johnson of Canton, Mo., Wayne E. “Fid” (Lee Ann) Murphy, Jr. of Williamstown, Mo. and Debi Murphy of Canton, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Sean Downs, Brandon Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Wayne “Jake” Murphy III, Alexandra Murphy, Claire Murphy, Dustin Murphy, Derek Murphy and Drew Murphy; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lillie Riney of Springfield, Il., Amy Smith of Canton, Mo., Mary Payne of Springfield, Il. and Mona (Tad) Stalets of Riverton, Il.; a brother, Larry Gibbons of Keokuk, Ia.; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Rose Heritage and two brothers, Bill Riney and Bob Gibbons.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10 AM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton, Missouri with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery in rural Monticello, Missouri.
