Violet Alvina (Schultz) Ragland June 29, 1929 - April 3, 2018 Carlsbad Violet was born June 29, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the first daughter of Grace Mary Eversole and Fred William Schultz. Violet was raised in Detroit, and attended Edwin Denby High School and Detroit Business College. In Detroit, she worked at various jobs including the Packard Motor Car Company. She joined the US Navy in 1951 during the Korean War and served until May, 1953, when she met, in San Diego, and then married US Marine Robert F. Ragland. Violet traveled, met many new friends and lived in many places during the next 16 years as a wife of a career Marine raising a family. In 1968 upon her husband's retirement from the Corps, they moved to Chula Vista, where she lived for 30 years before finally retiring and relocating to Carlsbad, CA. In the years living in Chula Vista, she worked in the hotel and insurance industry. She was deeply involved in the US Navy Waves Association, as well as FRA Aux., Silver Salts, and Marine Corps Association. Violet was preceded in death by husband Robert Franklin Ragland, daughter Mary Elizabeth and son Timothy James Ragland. She is survived by sons David Bryan and his wife Rebecca of Carlsbad, and Robert Franklin, Jr., and his wife Sheryl of Claremont, CA; grandchildren, Bryan and Courtney Ragland; and her sister Mary Luella Davis of Chesterfield, Michigan. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
