Mary Ann Phillips Evans was the daughter of John Phillips and the wife of William Evans. She and William were married on 16 Apr 1849 in St. Margaret's Parish Church, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England. They immigrated to America about 1852.

Mrs. Mary Evans died Friday morning after a lingering illness with dropsy. Mrs. Evans was born in England in 1826. She united with the Baptist church forty years ago. She leaves to mourn her demise four daughters, Mrs. Emma Schott, of Alton, and Mrs. Hannah Fairs [Phayer], Arcadia, Mo. The husband and eight children have preceded Mrs. Evans to the grave.

Note: The two daughters not named are Sarah Evans and Ella Arbuthnot.
