ROBERT STEGEMANN

Robert C. Stegemann, 86, of 2319-16th St., Two Rivers, founder of the Stegemann
food store, Two Rivers, and earlier one of the founders of industrial firms in
Sheboygan and later at Mauston, died unexpectedly of a heart condition at his
home Thursday morning.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Two
Rivers, the Rev. T.F. Stern officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest
cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Stegemann was born July 29, 1876, in Germany, son of the late Carl and Augusta
Kloko Stegemann. When he was seven the family brought him to this country, settling
at Manitowoc. Several years later the family moved to Two Rivers. For a number of
years after the turn of the century Mr. Stegmann was a foreman at Mirro Aluminum Co.,
Two Rivers. Shortly after World War I Mr. Stegemann moved to Mauston where he was
interested in the operation of an industrial firm. Later he helped to found a plant
at Sheboygan in the aluminum utensil field. Some 33 years ago he etablished the
Stegemann grocery at Two Rivers which later became Stegemann and Sons, and which
is now the Stegemann Sentry Market. He was a longtime trustee of St. John Lutheran
congregation.
Mr. Stegemann married the former Alvina Stuerwaldt in 1899 at Two Rivers. She died
in 1930. He then married the former Emily Broker at Two Rivers in 1931.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Carron, of Two Rivers; two sons,
Harvey and Edgar, operators of the Sentry store; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Preles and
Mrs. Emil Rath, of Two Rivers; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, after 3 p.m. Friday
until 11 a.m. Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church where the body
will lie in state until the time of services.
