Russell “Darrell” Abbott, 95, passed away Sept. 27, 2015 in Bremerton. He was born on June 28, 1920 in Stapleton, Nebraska to Calvin and Edna (Jensen) Abbott. He proudly served in the Navy from July 13, 1938 to May 22, 1946 as Chief Gunners Mate on the USS Astoria, USS Frazier, and the USS Metivier during World War II, primarily in the Pacific.

Darrell married Wilma Baker on July 2, 1948 in Richland, Washington. In his earlier years, he worked in Civilian Conservation Corps during the late 1930’s before he joined the Navy. He worked as an ironworker at Hanford Nuclear Reservation for 39 years in Richland, Washington.

Darrell was a life member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; and son, Michael Abbott. He is survived by his children, Jim Abbott of Bremerton and Judy Kirby of Seattle; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
