Mrs. Jane Howard King, daughter of the late Gen. Benjamin Chew Howard and granddaughter of Col. John Eager Howard, of Belvedere, died at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her nephew, Richard H. Bayard, 907 Cathedral street.
Mrs. King was born at Belvedere, her father's home, July 16, 1827, and spent her early girlhood there. In 1869 she married Joseph King, a brother of the late Francis T. King, who died in 1899. She was one of the founders in Maryland of the Colonial Dames of America and for many years was an officer of the organization. At the time of her death she was honorary vice-president of the society.
Mrs. King was interested in many charities, being one of the founders of the Union Protestant Infirmary, the Home for incurables and the Home for the Friendless. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. For several years she had been in failing health.
Surviving her are two nieces, Mrs. Edward A. Marshall and Miss Ellen H. Bayard, and three nephews, Jesse Tyson, Mr. Bayard and Benjamin C. Howard. The funeral will be held from the home of Mr. Bayard at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. The Rev. Dr. Alfred H. Barr, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Howard vault in Greenmount Cemetery.
