Carol R. Houston

Manitowoc - Carol Ruth Houston, age 89, passed away on April 14, 2018 at Shady Lane Care Center, Manitowoc.

Carol was born on February 11, 1929, in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Ruth (Vogt) Hansen. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc with the class of 1947. Carol married Andrew M. Houston in 1950 and he preceded her in death in April 2016 after 65 years of marriage. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the chancel choir for many years, served on the Deacon Board and various committees in the church. Carol worked for many years at the Margenau Drug Store and also Boelter's Jewelry Store. She enjoyed years of camping with Andy in Door County, and other travels as well, of which her favorite was when Andy took her to see his beloved Scotland. She enjoyed the long friendship she shared with her high school friends, her friends from Boelter's, the Gems (friends she and Andy had made when they moved to Escanaba, Michigan after they married in 1950), and the many good times they had together. Carol loved her garden and liked to read a good

book.

Survivors include her two daughters and one son-in-law, Cathy Houston and John Thompson of Eau Claire, WI, and Wendy Timm of Stewartville, MN, three grandsons, Nathan (Emily) Timm of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Dylan (Bridgette) Timm of Kasson, MN, Andrew (Karli) Thompson of Menomonie, WI, and one granddaughter, Mackenzie Thompson of Portland, OR. Also, her great grandson, Malcolm Timm of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nan and Curt Brewer of Oconomowoc, WI. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends also survive. Carol was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, her brother and sister-in- law, Robert and Mary Hansen, her nephew, Jeffery Hansen, her sister-in-law and brother- in-law, Jessie and Gerhardt Vetter, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew and Ella Houston.

Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel, and Carol will be laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. In lieu of flowers and memorials, it was Carol's wish that if you want to honor her memory that you plant a flower to make yourself happy and do an act of kindness to make someone else happy. Private family services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com

The family would like to express their appreciation for the special care given to Carol at Shady Lane and Holy Family Memorial Hospice.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair Streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
