H. Eloise Ambrose, age 92, of Scottville, Il. died early Thursday morning (April 19, 2018) at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Il.
She was born December 23, 1925 in Jacksonville, Il. daughter of the late Wendell H. and Marie Megginson Dugger.
She married James L. Ambrose on August 28, 1947 in Scottville, Il. and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2008.
Surviving are her children, Jerry Ambrose (Teresa) of Palmyra, Il., Brenda Jo Ambrose of Scottville, Il. and John W. Ambrose (Linda) of Lakewood Ranch, Fl.; four grandchildren, Sarah Drew-Campbell (Doug) of Scottville, Il., Jennifer Dalton (Mat) of Athensville, Il., Justin K. Ambrose (fiancé Clarissa Cox) of Springfield, Il., Jamie Straub of Lakewood Ranch, Fl.; one great-granddaughter, Baelyn Drew-Campbell of Scottville, Il.; a brother-in-law, James W. Mills of Georgetown, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Genevieve Mills.
She was a graduate of Scottville High School and attended MacMurray College receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Eloise briefly taught high school in Knoxville, Il. and later was a substitute teacher at Northwestern High School in Palmyra, Il. Her life was spent as a homemaker and the bookkeeper for their family farm and her husband’s trucking business. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved traveling, reading, and was an avid St. Louis baseball Cardinal fan. She loved going to her grandchildren’s sporting events. Eloise and her husband spent many winters in Phoenix visiting family. Eloise also recently traveled coast to coast with her daughter.
