May 26, 1984 - March 26, 2018

Redondo Beach - Kathryn A. Hindenlang, 33, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2018 at home with family after suffering from several chronic diseases over the last several years.

She was raised in Manhattan Beach where she graduated from Mira Costa High School. She attended U.C. Berkeley where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She graduated with a degree in Rhetoric, was one of the first marketing writers at Google, and held several other esteemed writing jobs.

In 2013, Katie received a full, 2-year fellowship from Washington University in St. Louis to obtain an MFA in creative writing but did not finish because of health issues. She received a number of awards for her poetry and had many of them published. She had a zest for life and creativity, and loved her interaction with friends and family.

Katie is survived by her father Walter Hindenlang and his wife Phyllis Hindenlang, her mother Margaret Hindenlang Komp and her husband Tom Komp, her sister Christine Hindenlang, and her special aunt, Kathleen Abler. We have received an outpouring of love from her many friends and family members.

A celebration of life for Katie will start at 1:00 pm on April 28, at Rice Mortuary located at 5310 Torrance Blvd. in Torrance. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to TMS - The Mastocytosis Society for Mast Cell diseases.
