It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Vera Marie Butera, who passed away April 11, 2017. Vera was born a "fire-cracker" baby July 4, 1928, in New Orleans, La., where she met, fell in love and married the love of her life, Sam Butera Oct. 17, 1948. Together, with two small children, Vera left New Orleans, settling in Las Vegas in 1954, where Sam began his career in music with Louis Prima. Two more children followed completing her family. With Sam traveling the country, this true Las Vegas pioneer woman built a life for her family bringing her quiet normalcy into a hectic entertainment lifestyle. PTA meetings, school events, dance recitals, sports practices and games, she did it all.. flawlessly. Throughout her 60 years of marriage and raising children, she was truly the wind behind all of her family's wings. Always content to remain in the background, she lovingly supported, ferociously stood behind and steadily guided them all. Later, her constancy extended beyond her own children to her eight grandchildren supporting them always and unconditionally. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Vera Hoppe; and her soul mate, Sam, in 2009, whom she missed for all of her remaining days. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Butera, Diane (John) Didier, Sam Butera Jr. and Nicholas (Jennifer) Butera; grandchildren, Melissa Faccinto, Christina (Mike) Mayer, Katie Faccinto, John Sam (Deana) Didier, Nicholas (Kelly) Didier, Jake Butera, Madeline Butera and Charlie Butera; and her great-grandchildren, Alexis Mayer, Brady Mayer, Taylor Mayer, Nicholas Faccinto-Jerram, Jackson Didier, Dylan Didier and Sammy Didier. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, at St. Viator Catholic Community, 2461 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada 89121. Davis Funeral Home & Memorial Park assisted the family.
