He enlisted, aged 24, on Sep 21,1861 at Evans Center,NY as a Private. On Sep 23,1861, he mustered into "D" Co., NY 10th Cavalry. He Re-enlisted on Dec 31,1863. He participated in thirty battles, including Appomattox. He was transferred out on Jun 24,1865 into Field & Staff of the NY 1st Prov'l Cavalry. He was Mustered Out on Jul 19,1865 at Cloud's Mills,VA.

He was employed by the L.S. & M.S.R.R. as a conductor, and he was instantly killed at Erie,PA while in the discharge of his duty.

He married Alzina Bennett.
