Zealie Otis was the son of John Newt Swearingen, and Minnie Ola Varnadow Swearingen of Fitzgerald, Georgia. He married Hannah Elizabeth Lardin of Butler, PA in 1934. He and his bride began their married life on a farm outside Fitzgerald, GA, where they started the well known Wannah Jersey Dairy Farm.


"Bud", as he was referred to by family and friends was noted for growing the best vegetables in the county. He was a hard worker, a good and patient man. He was a lover of animals - especially his ever faithful German Shephard dog, "Ranger".

He was a Mason, and a member of the United Methodist Church.
