Martin was the son of Thomas Mathew Wilson and Mary Jane Rutledge Wood. He had the following siblings: Eunice Kate Wood Arnold, John Rutledge Wood, Henry Fort Wood, Guy Wood, Lilly Eliza Wood Thomas, Richard Wood, and Dessie Lee Wood Moore. Martin married Pearlee Turner Wood and they were the parents of Guy, Lottie, Chester B., Ira Turner, John Brown, Martin Meek, and Jeanette Wood. He moved to Frio Co., Texas in 1895, buying land where he grew cotton, corn, and maize and raised a few cattle.
