Hannah was the daughter of Will Cearing Lardin, and Nellie Emily Wilson Lardin of Butler, Pa. She was an accomplished pianist., having studied Piano at the Pittsburg Musical Institute under John Holland. Later she taught piano to advanced students in the schools and at home.

She married Zealie Otis Swearingen of Fitzgerald, Georgia in 1934. She and her husband owned a registered Jersey farm, where Hannah's love for music was combined with a great love for animals. She raised and showed Siamese cats, showed Morgan horses, and showed Jersey calves and cows. She also raised chickens, goats, and rabbits, and German Shepherd Dogs. Her other hobbies included reading, cooking, and composing music. She was a member of the National Society. Daughters of The American Revolution, and a member of The First Methodist Church.
