MARS HILL – John E. Ackerson, 82, died March 1, 2009, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Mars Hill, the son of John and Pearl (Steeves) Ackerson. John owned and operated his own potato farm for many years and also had been employed by several of the area farmers. He loved being outside enjoying nature and especially enjoyed visiting with his many friends in and around the Mars Hill area.

He is survived by three nephews, Jay A. Boyd of Mars Hill, Perley E. Ackerson of Windsor, Conn., and the Rev. James W. Ackerson of Presque Isle; a brother-in-law, Archie G. Boyd of Mars Hill; a sister-in-law, Eldora Ackerson of Bridgewater; several great-nieces, nephews, cousins and several close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Earl L. Ackerson; and a sister, Dorothy H. Boyd.
A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine. (Bangor Daily News3/3/2009)
