At the age of two, she, along with her family, relocated to Troy, where she later attended St. Patrick's Grammar School and Catholic Central High School. Following her marriage in 1948, she resided in Watervliet for several years, before moving to Latham where she resided for many years. Bernadette was employed, as an operator, by the New York Telephone Company and later worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, King Venetian Blind and Drapery Company in Troy.
Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Francis O'Sullivan, Margaret (Flynn) Wells, Charles O'Sullivan, Genevieve "Jean" Bothwell, Rita O'Sullivan and Joseph Donohue.
