MRS. GUS BAARS DIES SUDDENLY
PASSING FOLLOWS WEEK'S ILLNESS,
RITES WILL BE TUESDAY.
Ill just seven days Mrs. Maude Baars, 63, wife of Gus Baars, former city commissioner and a barber here for many years, died at 11:30 o'clock Sunday morning in St. Mary's hospital. She had been a hospital patient since Wednesday, her passing coming as a shock to her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon in St. Paul's Lutheran church, with Rev. Hans E. Sandrock officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery. The body lies at the Hagi funeral home, where friends may call until noon tomorrow, when it will be removed to St. Paul's Lutheran church for services.
The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lockwood, the former Maude Lockwood was born in Streator May 6, 1884 and had spent her entire life here where she was well known. She was married to Gus Baars in September, 1904 (14th), and they became the parents of two daughters. Mrs. Baars was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and affiliated with the Ladies Aid Society. She was also an active club woman and at the time of her death was secretary of the Streator Woman's Club and King's Daughters. For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Baars had resided at 702 N. Bloomington St., their daughter, Mrs. R.E. Adamson, and family occupying an apartment in their home.
Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. R.E. Adamson and Mrs. Leo Martin of Streator; two grandchildren, Gayle Adamson and Marcia Martin; one brother, Col. Daniel S. Lockwood of Colorado; and a sister, Mrs. T. N. McVay of Alabama. Two brothers are deceased.
