Joel L. Bicknell, 86, died at 8.45 a.m. Feb. 20, 1999, at his residence. He was born July 5, 1912, in Marion to Joel Frank and Mary J. Lamley Bicknell.

On Aug. 7, 1930, he married Ruth C. Keller, who died April 28, 1996.

Mr. Bicknell was a finishing carpenter for John Klay Construction, Bluffton. He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren and Free and Accepted Masons Saeger Lodge 513. He was a lifetime member of Dayton Consistdry Andent Accepted Scottish Rite Eastern Star Chapter 121, Lafayette.

Survivors include two sons, Joel L. Bicknell Jr. of Lima and Robert D. (Sandy) Bicknell of Troy; a daughter, JoAnn (John) Short of Lima; a brother, Arthur Lowell Bicknell Sr. of Lima; two sisters, Dorothy Speakman of Ridge Crest, Calif, and Betty Yarbrough of Dallas; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Elwood; three sisters, Juanita Carlock, Mary Greer and Helen Hadding; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis Chapel of Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes. The Revs. Kathleen Barkley and John Memmert will officiate. Burial will be in Lewis Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Saeger Masonic Lodge service will held at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund.
