Robert "Bob" Milton Ascheman was born January 25, 1947, in Holloway, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Rose (Bach) Ascheman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith at Hegbert Catholic Church. Bob grew up in Fairfield Township and graduated from District 43 Grade School and Appleton High School. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard from December of 1965 to December of 1971. On November 19, 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Diane Kay Sulier at St. Francis Catholic Church. This union was blessed with more than 51 years of marriage, 4 children, and 5 grandchildren.
Bob owned Ascheman Gravel with his brother, Harold. He drove transport for Ascheman Oil for 33 years until his retirement in January 2018. Bob and Diane lived and raised their four children in Danvers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an usher at church. Among the many things Bob enjoyed were camping, hunting, fishing, and grocery shopping. There are just not words to describe what a big hearted, loving, generous-beyond-any-boundaries, hardworking servant Bob was. His devotion to his family, and especially Diane through these last four years of her cancer, went beyond unconditional love or anything most of us could comprehend. He loved spending time with his grandkids, serving others, and could fix anything and everything.
Bob passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, at Swift County Benson Health Services Hospital. He attained the age of 71 years, 3 months and 5 days. He is survived by his wife, Diane Kay Ascheman; children: Todd and Sue Ascheman of Pennock, Scott Ascheman of Benson, Terry and Bill Rhea of Avon, and Tony and Peggy Ascheman of Hancock; grandchildren: Abigail Ascheman, Ross Ascheman, Kaitlyn Ascheman, Ryan Ascheman, and Billy Rhea; siblings: Melvin and Margo Ascheman of Benson, Agnes Miller of Hancock, Carol and Virgil Mesenbrink of Bloomington, Ronald and Donna Ascheman of Benson, Rita and Don Johnson of Perham, and Bernice and Dave Wente of Morris; sisters and brother-in-law: Liz Ascheman, Anne Schmidt, Jim and Janice McRoberts, and Connie Ascheman.
Bob was preceded in death by his siblings: Richard Ascheman, Harold Ascheman, Rose Ann McRoberts, Margie Beyer, Roy Ascheman, and baby girl triplet. Blessed be his memory.
