Ancel Bailey of Covington, passed away May 3, 2018, at the age of 80. Mr. Bailey was a faithful member of Community Church of Praise. After graduating from Young Harris College in 1958, Mr. Bailey went on to be a homicide detective with the City of Atlanta where he worked for 15 years. During his career, he had the honorable distinction of working as a contractor for the United Nations and training police officers in Bosnia. Mr. Bailey brought his law enforcement career to a close, retiring from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department after 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents Doyle and Clareece Bailey; and brothers, Royal Bailey, Doyle Bailey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Bailey; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheree and Andy George, Donya and Dale James; son, Greg Bailey; grandchildren, Mike, Desiree, Jarrad, Brittany, Zach, Ashley, Ryan, Olivia, Dean; great-grandchildren, Elliot, Meleigha, Caleb; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Larry Capps; brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Ruth Bailey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Bailey will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, 3:00 PM, at Community Church of Praise, 3851 Union Church Road, Stockbridge, with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family at Community Church of Praise, two hours prior to his service, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
