Dave A. Yancey was born to Adam Emron Yancey and Thelma Lorraine Mitchell on September 11, 1947 in Blackfoot, ID. He passed away Saturday, May 5 2018 at the Idaho State Veteran’s Home in Pocatello, ID of natural causes. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Dave grew up in the Blackfoot area and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1965. He then joined the Navy and served there during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Navy and Army Reserves. Dave lived in California, Oregon, and Nevada until returning to the Blackfoot area. He has worked as a long haul trucker, as an insurance agent and owner, general contractor in construction and also had his own business as an herbalist. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Heritage International University.
Dave loved his family. He was especially considerate of his mother and would call her several times each day to make sure she was doing well.
Dave will always be remembered as one who loved helping folks and developed many friendships in many places as a result. He enjoyed gun tooling, photography, herbs and was in the process of writing a book. Dave was quite an inventor and developed several salves with his herbs that helped many people. He loved things of antiquity and was always trying to learn more about them. He had a great sense of humor as well. During his last months of failing health he exhibited extreme patience with the many physical challenges that occurred. We give special thanks to Heritage Hospice and the folks at the Veteran’s Home who cared for him.
Dave is survived by his mother Thelma Yancey (Blackfoot, ID), his sisters Janet Yancey Crook (Blackfoot, ID) and Janis Yancey Langford (White Rock, NM), his brother Troy Yancey (New Zealand), his son Anthony Yancey (Idaho Falls, ID) and his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.
The family is under the care of the Hawker Funeral Home. At Dave’s request, only private family services will be held.
