Howard A. Boostrom, age 93, of Sterling, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.

He was born to Carl and Gladys (Larson) Boostrom. He graduated from Galva High School, Class of 1942.

Howard entered the United States Navy in May 1943, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged in 1946.

He married Helen I. Florea on August 24, 1947 in Galva.

Howard joined the Illinois State Police October 28, 1957. He was assigned to District 1 - Sterling as a trooper. He retired December 31, 1982.

He was an avid sports fan, playing fast pitch softball for the Bishop Hill Sweedes and later for the New Bedford Elites.

In 1957, he was named All American by the International Softball Congress in Greely, Colorado.

Howard was a member of the Prophetstown American Legion, Post #522.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Boostrom of Sterling; his daughter, Linda (Jerry) Heckler of Sterling; his son, Larry (Debra) Boostrom of Rock Falls; his sister, Dorothy (Gerald) Nelson of Galva; four grandchildren, Brian (Kristen) Williamson, Todd (Amy) Sigel, Mathew Boostrom and Jenna Marcum; eleven great grandchildren, Jonathan, Abbee, Jacee, Blake, Kade, Grace, Jacob, Avery, Tyler, Britten and Leighton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lori Ann Marcum; and his sister, Lil.
