Janet was a graduate of South Whitley High School, South Whitley, Indiana, and later received her BS in Education from Manchester University, North Manchester, Indiana. After graduating from MU, she worked for the Richmond and Westville Indiana Public Schools. Upon moving to Elizabethtown in 1970, she was employed by the Elizabethtown School District where she taught 1st grade from 1970 to 1975 and served on the Elizabethtown School Board for two terms. Janet then went on to teach at Kraybill Mennonite School until her retirement. During her retirement Janet could not resist her love of education and children. An active member and vigorous volunteer of West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, Elizabethtown, she helped direct the Tiny Timbers Preschool. She also served as a Deacon for 25 years, worked with the women’s ministries and was the ultimate prayer warrior.
Janet and David shared a passion for travel. Together they visited 49 states and 26 countries around the world. She was a wonderful, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother and had an extraordinary gift of bringing joy to countless people throughout her life.
Born in Huntington, IN, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Richard and Irene Kintner Knarr. She is also survived by her siblings: John (Bea Royer) Knarr, Eva (Dallas) Caudill and Cheryl (Paul) Thomas, all of Indiana, Elaine (Phil) Weinert of PA, Joyce (Bill) Street of Washington, and Carol (Ed) Gebert of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Janet’s life will be held at West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 740 West Greentree Road, Elizabethtown, PA on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 12 Noon. Keeping with Janet’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. Janet’s family will receive friends at West Green Tree COB on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM. PLEASE NOTE: There will be no visitation prior to the service on Saturday. Janet’s family will receive friends immediately following the service on Saturday. Please refrain from sending flowers.
