Glenn Jeffrey Simmons passed away May 10, 2018, at Sussman House in Rockport. He passed on his 55th birthday. There will be a private graveside ceremony at a later time for family and closest friends.

Glenn was born in Rockland to his father, Vernon Merrill Simmons (deceased), and his mother, Virginia ("Ginny") Carol Simmons, May 10, 1963. He grew up on Spruce Head Island and Hewetts Island, and attended Rockland District High School, class of 1981. He is survived by his loving partner, Paul Longo, of Cushing; his mother, Ginny Simmons, and companion Roland Carleton of Thomaston; his brother, Frederick Lewis ("Fred") Simmons, of Warren; and many cousins and friends.

Glenn was a kind and generous soul who never hesitated to help others, and his joyous enthusiasm for life touched the hearts of those who knew him. He loved the outdoors and gardening, and playing clarinet in the Bay Winds North Wind Ensemble, a community band for regional high school alumni.

He was heavily involved in genealogical research, not only of his own family, but he assisted many friends and acquaintances to trace their ancestry back to their European origins. He also attempted to catalog all the cemeteries of Knox County and submit his findings to online genealogical databases. His brother, Fred, will attempt to continue his work.

The Simmons family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate hospice staff at Sussman House, who offered Glenn and his family great kindness and comfort. Donations in his memory may be made to Sussman House or to the American Cancer Society.
