Margaret M. Augustin, age 91, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Tender Reflections, Manitowoc.
She was born on March 31, 1927 in Sheboygan, daughter of the late John and Laura (Arndt) Augustin. Margaret lived on a farm in the Town of Newton until 1941. She attended Washington Junior High School and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1945. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Chemistry and Physical Education. Margaret taught at a High School in Munising, Michigan from 1949 until 1950. She then spent a four year hitch in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, after her service to the country she worked at Tandy Leather Co. in Fort Worth, Texas as a Buyer in their Mail Order Division from 1955 until 1960. Margaret then obtained a Texas teaching certificate through Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and taught Chemistry, Physics and Biology from 1960 until 1974 at Alvarado Texas. She Graduated from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas in 1974 with a M.A. in Chemistry. In 1967 and 1968 Margaret was nominated Outstanding Chemistry Teacher in Texas. She then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1974 where she taught High School Chemistry and Physics at Inola, Oklahoma until 1983. Margaret then taught Chemistry and Mathematics at Rogers State University in 1983 until her retirement in 1996. She moved back to Wisconsin in 1996 to a tree farm in Kiel, WI that was in the family since the late 1800’s. Margaret ran this “Managed Forest” tree farm with her sister and brother-in-law until 2009. She was voted Manitowoc County “Forester of the year” in 2000. Margaret was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Churches, serving in several positions and committees. She spent several years as a substitute teacher in the city of Kiel. She was a tutor to several students in the Kiel area until 2009, and then later moved to Manitowoc.
Survivors include one nephew: Roy Vondrachek, Manitowoc; great-nieces: Lindsey (Lucas) Behnke, Brillion, Leah (Adam) Krahn, Brillion, Hailey Vondrachek, Manitowoc; great-great-nieces and nephews: Alexis, Elizabeth, Livia, David and Luke Behnke, Bryn and Bryson Krahn, Andrew Kliment, Riley and Addison Thielen; Ex-niece-in-law: Karen Elfner, Manitowoc; and a special friend Nancy Allen, Texas. She was preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Ann (Joseph) Vondrachek; one brother: George John Augustin.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, town of Schleswig.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for donation of their choice.
