Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016. Clair F. Gerstacker was 88 years old and passed away after a brief illness. He left behind his wife of 60 years. He also left four daughters and their spouses. He had 11 grandchildren. He also has three great-granddaughters. He leaves behind his brother.
Clair retired from The Dow Chemical Co. in 1992, after 39 1/2 years. He worked as an instrument engineer. He honorably served during the Korean War (1951-1953) at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C., using radar to patrol the air space.
He was born to Hulda (Feinouer) and Frederick Gerstacker on Sept. 30, 1927 in Larkin Township. Clair was a family man and loved to travel. He and Donna traveled throughout Europe and finished their visits to all 50 states in 2013! He was an avid golfer, woodworker, gardener and wine maker. He was a member of the Woodworkers Association and the Instrument Society of America.
Clair was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, and has held various offices in the church throughout the years. We would like to thank Hospice Advantage and their staff for their compassionate care, especially Karrey, Toni and Karen.
Funeral services for Clair will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1557 W. Seidler Road at 11 mile Road in Beaver Township. The Rev. Seth R. Hemme will officiate. Graveside burial rites will take place at Zion Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Midland Area Veterans and the United States Army.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, and at the church on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Zion Lutheran Church, Beaver or Hospice Advantage.
