=====================
He was born in Missouri, the oldest child of Andrew Fields Prewitt and Mary Ann Polly Stone. He was identified in the 1860 US Census as being 17. When he enlisted in the CSA in Sept. 1861 he gave his age as 18. This means there was confusion about his birth date and 1845 is almost certainly wrong.

His spouse was actually named Elizabeth Ann Tucker Gartman Prewitt Chism. Her first spouse was Daniel J. Gartman who fought for the Union and died as a Union Casualty before she met and married James E. Prewitt.
