JOHN THOMAS POLLARD
August 1, 1879 ~ September 5, 1972

John Thomas Pollard, 93, of Haworth (He lived in the Pollard Community, the house north of the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church), died Tuesday, Sept. 5, in McCurtain Memorial Hospital, with his daughter, Faye and other family members at his bedside.

Services were at 2:00 p. m. in the Norwood-Welch Funeral Chapel with Bro. Booker Graves officiating. Burial was in the Denison Cemetery.

Mr. Pollard was born Aug. 1, 1879, in Alabama. He moved to McCurtain County in 1905 from Arkansas. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Thomas Pollard and Martha Elizabeth Adamson Pollard; his son, Alvia Lee Pollard, who was killed in action in North Africa on July 12, 1943 during World War II; and a daughter, Deta Minter who died July 30, 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Julia of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Carlton (Vera) Frey of Haworth (in Pollard; Vera lived across the highway in the next house north of her mom & dad's), Mrs. Lloyd (Margaret) O'Rear of Idabel and Autrey (Faye) Dunn of McAlester; three sisters, Mrs. Ode (Lula) Ferguson of Pollard, Mrs. Lena Rankin of Murfreesboro, Ark., and Mrs. Fred (Ora) Henderson of Texarkana; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
