Eloise Mann was the daughter of Norris C. & Ida/Lula F. Mann. She came from East Lake, Dare County, North Carolina to Norfolk, Virginia at a young age and was married by age 16 years. She married James E. Merkle about 1919-20.

Eloise M. Merkle, 88, of the 100 block of Lynnhaven Road, a retired office manager, died March 14, 1992, in a hospital. Mrs. Merkle was born in East Lake, N.C. She retired from Floyd T. Deary Co. Inc. after 30 years and was the widow of James E. Merkle. Survivors include a son, Norris V. Merkle of Glen Allen; a sister, Violet Kellam of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in London Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Tommie Taylor.
