Ruth Ann Abbatiello, a local area resident for over 30 years, died on Friday, May 18, 2018 in Pleasant Valley. She was 87.
She was born on December 15, 1930 in Manhattan. She grew up in Yonkers, where she also raised her family, and remained there until the 1980s. In 1950, she married Brandy Abbatiello at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Ruth’s hobbies included gardening and baking, but above all else, she cherished spending time with her family. She had a generous spirit and throughout her life contributed to countless charitable efforts and organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Brandy, at home; her daughter, Joanne Michelin and her husband, Thomas; her son, Joseph Abbatiello and his wife, Pina; her daughter, Susan Alfiero and her husband, Carmel; her son, Fr. Robert Abbatiello, O.F.M.,Cap.; her grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph (Melissa), Brandi (Chris), Paul (Renee), Alison (James), Nicholas (Michelle), Matthew (Michelle), Lawrence (Lauren), and Sara; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Thomas Michelin, Jr., in 2008.
Calling hours will be held from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. on Monday, May 21 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
