Elaine Elda Liermann, 89, of Eagle River, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the Ascension Eagle River Hospital.
Born in Manitowoc, Wis., to Reynold and Adelia Groelle, she married Orville Liermann in 1949, and enjoyed 43 years of adventure including trips to Hawaii, California and Arizona.
She loved time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
An avid organic gardener before organic was mainstream, it was not unusual for the mailman to deliver preying mantis egg cases, balls of lady bugs or five-pound boxes of live honeybees. She indulged her husband’s love of honeybees and had a glass observation hive humming with live bees in her kitchen.
She and Orville loved to dance. They enjoyed shooting trap and Elaine, a top-scoring shooter, was a member of the first female trap team in Wisconsin. She won many trophies with her bowling team.
Her themed Christmas trees were much anticipated and her Easter egg hunts legend.
Active in church, Elaine enjoyed choir, Ladies Aid, and visiting shut-ins. She especially appreciated her Tuesday evening Bible study group.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Henry; husband, Orville Liermann; daughter, Karen Liermann; and son-in-law, Wayne Radtke.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy Radtke (Wayne) of Lakeville, Minn.; son, John Liermann (Janis) of The Villages, Fla.; daughter, Kay Lorbiecki (Steven) of Neenah, Wis.; son, Lee Liermann (Brenda) of Eagle River; grandchildren, Stephanie Sharma (Arvind) of Mendota Heights, Minn., Stephen Radtke (Wendy) of Germantown, Tenn., Kelle Berggren (Mark) of Batavia, Ill., Ryan Liermann (Mary) of Antioch, Ill., and Beth and Greta Liermann of Eagle River; great- grandchildren, Rohan and Kiran Sharma of Mendota Heights, Caleb Radtke of Germantown, Brandon, Brett and Brooke Berggren of Batavia, and Anders and Liam Liermann of Antioch.
A celebration of her life will be held May 12, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle River. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m., interment and then lunch at the church.
