MRS. JOHN SCANLON KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT --- Mrs. Louise Scanlon, wife of John Scanlon of Nepaug, was killed instantly last Friday night in Bakersville when a car driven by her son, Joseph, collided with a car driven by A.A. Belden. The accident happened just outside of the center of Bakersville when the driver attempted to pass the car of Belden, who had slowed up and turned left into a driveway. The two machines came together, the Scanlon car turning over and landed on Mrs. Scanlon breaking her neck. Both cars were badly damaged.
Mrs. Scanlon was born in Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Charlie F. and Virginia Lappan. She is survived by her husband, John Scanlon, four sons, John, Jr., of Hartford, Louis, Joseph and Robert of Nepaug; two daughters, Emily (Mrs. Edward C. McCay) of Hartford, and Frances of Nepaug, two sisters, Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Caine of New Haven and several grandchildren.
The funeral was largely attended from the Immaculate Conception church Monday morning at 9 o'clock. The bearers were John Brennan, Thomas Castouquay, Martin Sinnott, William Garrett,P.H. Walsh and Timothy Mulcurry. [The Farmington Valley Herald, Hartford, Conn., Thursday, November 18, 1926]
