Porter Howard Snow was born 28 Mar 1814, in Ware, Massachusetts. The son of Eli Snow and Alice Alden. Eli was the 3x great grandson of Nicholas Snow who arrived on the Ann in 1623. Nicholas married Constance Hopkins who came in the Mayflower.
Eli's wife Alice was the 3x great granddaughter of John Alden, who came on the Mayflower.
Porter Howard attended Amherst college, Union College, Yale School of Theology. In about 1844 he was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister.
On 14 Jan 1847, he married Asenath Fanny Leonard in Baltimore, Md.
She gave him five sons, but the eldest passed away at the age of 12yrs, a month before his youngest son was born. tragedy continued as his wife grew ill and died in 1863. He had been preaching for nearly twenty years but he left the pulpit never to return.
Porter Howard eventually made his way to Chicago where he became an insurance executive.
He did remarry in 1872, no children resulted from that union.
Porter Howard Snow died 11 Dec 1889. He was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. His wife, who had been buried in Madison, Wisconsin, was reburied next to him.
