ILL A YEAR, SHE PASSES AWAY AT AGE OF 79 AT HOME OF DAUGHTER
Mrs. Laura May Dowell, a resident of Chillicothe since 1901, died at 10:20 o'clock this morning at the age of 79.
Death came at the home of a daughter, Mrs. T. R. Mendenhall, 422 Collier street. Mrs. Dowell had been ill a year and bedfast six weeks.
She was born Jan. 2, 1870 in Bates County, Missouri, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Mingus. She grew to womanhood there and on Nov. 4, 1886 she married Hedge Dowell. The couple moved here from Bates County in September 1901. Mr. Dowell died April 4, 1911.
To the union, eight children were born. Six still are living. They are Mrs. Mendenhall, Mrs. J.M. Summerville, 628 Commercial street; Arthur and Vern, both of Wayne County, Michigan; Bill of Inkster, Michigan, and Lloyd of Jefferson City.
She had four sisters. Three, Mrs. Belle Rice and Mrs. Rosa Stottlemeyer, both of Milo, Mo., and Mrs. Mattie Wickliff, Billings, Montana, still are living. There also are four grandchildren and six great grandchildren living.
Mrs. Dowell was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
The body is at the Norman Funeral Home.
