Arley Devilla Mace, son of Edward and Sally Dowell Mace, was born Sept. 17, 1899 at Avalon, Mo. About the age of 15 years he with his parents moved to Wheeling, where he spent the rest of his life. He attended grade school at Avalon and high school at Wheeling. He was married to Miss Gladys Harvey, May 3, 1925 and to them were born one daughter Cleo, nor Mrs. Herbert Brenneman, Jr. He united with the Wheeling Baptist Church Sept. 16, 1917. He was an active and loyal member serving 18 years as Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of A.F.A.M. lodge no. 434 and held the office as treasurer at the time of his death. He was an efficient and dependable clerk at the Tharp, Littrell and Co., store for 35 years. He departed this life Aug. 5, 1952, at the Chillicothe hospital following a major operation July 24. He is survived by his devoted wife, his aged, invalid mother of the home, one daughter, Cleo, Wheeling, one brother, Rollie Mace, Binghampton, New York, five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
