Selena Lee Sperry Johnson May 7, 1979 - April 20, 2018

Selena Johnson, age 38, grew up in the Cottage Lake area with a neighborhood of kids that were like family. She attended school in the Northshore Alternative Program, Leota Jr. High, Woodinville High School and Running Start, graduating in 1997. Selena was bright and funny and loved playing softball and soccer. At 14 she started working at her family's travel agency, Canyon Park Travel. Selena loved to see the world and backpacked throughout Great Britain, Europe and Australia with friends. Always an animal lover, she volunteered at PAWS while still in high school. Her first job there was to feed baby birds that had fallen out of nests until they could be released into the wild. It was a dangerous job because she fell in love with the orphaned kittens she took home to foster and ended up adopting the orphans herself. The staff at PAWS recognized how dedicated Selena was to caring for animals so they hired her to be a veterinarian's assistant. When she mastered placing IVs in tiny kitten veins it occurred to her she could certainly start IVs on people. This evolved into her career in nursing. After volunteering for the Evergreen Hospice program she found her passion was helping the elderly. Selena was a nurse in care facilities in Stanwood, Arlington, Marysville, Mt. Vernon and Kona, Hawaii.

Selena found the love of her life and best friend in Marty Johnson. They were married in July 2011 and lived on Camano Island. Selena was a breast cancer survivor since 2014. She was recently diagnosed with a heart defect and had a routine procedure to repair it. Six weeks later her sudden death was a shock to all her family and friends.

Selena is survived by her husband-Marty Johnson, parents-Lee & Melanie Sperry of Woodinville, sister-Corynne Dejong and nephews- Cohen & Kade of Bonney Lake, Wash., mother-in-law-Dorothy Faydo of Camano Island, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Selena joins her grandparents- Bud & Beulah Olsen of Davenport, Wash. and aunts-Barbara, Bonnie and Brenna in Heaven.
