Verna M. Harker, 90, of Quincy, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday (May 23, 2018) in Sunset Home.

Born November 8, 1927 in Quincy, Verna was the daughter of Edwin and Elva Louise Abbath Thuer. She married Elmer R. Harker Sr. on May 3, 1967 in Carthage, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1983.

Verna was a lifetime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active with organizing funeral luncheons for many years and served as secretary of her Sunday School Class. She was also active with L.W.M.L. Ladies Society. Verna loved animals, especially a little Yorkie named "Button".

A 1946 graduate of Quincy High School, Verna was employed as a secretary for Niemann Wholesale Foods for 21 years until her retirement.

Survivors include her sister in law, Carolyn Thuer of Quincy; many cousins and three very special people in her life, Judy Niemann and Joe and Janet Colvin.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer Harker Sr.; and two brothers, Jack Thuer and Jim Thuer.

Services will be private.
