She was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Tisch Mills and the Rosary Society of the church. She was also a member of the Czechs of Norman and she enjoyed singing with the WI Czech Choraliers, the D of I, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Gertie enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, canning, gardening, and traveling with her husband Hank. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gertie is survived by her children: Steven and Denise Schleis, Kevin and Tammy Schleis, Marvin and Julie Schleis, all of Kewaunee, Karen and Tim Elsenpeter, of Manitowoc, Kathy and Mike Ingels, of Adrian, MI 9 grandchildren: Ryan (Tasha) Schleis, Tyler (Melissa) Schleis, Brianne Schleis, Brittany Schleis, Taylor Schleis, Michael Kinnell, Jacob Ingels, twins Grace and Emma Ingels, 2 great-grandchildren: Cadence Schleis, Abigaile Carling, one brother: Robert Valenta and his special friend: Pam Vanderkinter, both of Poland, WI, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law: Jean Kabat, of Oshkosh, Jake and Delores Schleis, of Kewaunee, Dolores Poehls, of Appleton, Sr. Theresa Schleis, of Manitowoc, Virgil and Betty Michaels, of Manitowoc, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she was also preceded in death by one brother: Norbert Valenta, and by many brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Tisch Mills with the Reverend Dennis Drury officating, and assisted by Deacon Robert Pribek. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home 344 So. State St., Mishicot. There will be a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service Tuesday evening at the funeral home led by Deacon Robert Pribek. Visitation will continue after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church, until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in Norman.
