David M. Catherwood, age 80, of Edgerton, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at his home. He was born in Cleveland, OH, on April 16, 1938, the son of Robert and Olive (Sherwood) Catherwood. David married Velma R. Matoshko on Aug. 18, 1969 in Warren, MI. He was a jazz musician and composer who played Vibes and performed alongside Velma on vocals with multiple groups. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2007. David was a devoted and loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his 4 children: David E. (Jen) Catherwood of Bend, OR, Erin (Stephen) Sells of Aurora, IL, Rhiannon Catherwood of Syracuse, NY, and Laura (Bryan Lewis) Catherwood of Chicago; 5 grandchildren: Kayla, Kylie, Tyler, Korben, and Anya; and 2 siblings, Alec Catherwood and Ellen Givens. David was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Robert Catherwood.
A Celebration of David’s Life will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at his daughter, Erin’s home, 2340 Chandler Ct. Aurora, IL. Private family burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL at a later date. Memorials may be made to Erin Sells for charitable donation towards children’s musical education. The family is being assisted by the Apfel Ehlert Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Edgerton.
