The 1920 US Census cites Helen, 16, living in Stutsman, ND with her father James McManus, widowed , 52, born in Ireland, Helen's mother deceased, born in PA, and her two brothers, James and John.
A 1903 Wisconsin birth record cites Nellie Sloway as the mother and James McManus the father. The female baby was born May 12, 1903. Another citation at FSO has Ellen Nellie Sloway born in 1869, died in 1905 in North Dakota.
Helen married Ward Barden, and they raised their children ND, eventually in Tioga, ND where the children graduated from high school.
Ward preceded Helen. They are buried together at Tioga, ND where they called home until they died. They were a wonderful couple, loved by the entire town, as were their children.
