Mrs. Helen Joey Bowers, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Bowers was a native of Bluff City, Tennessee and the daughter of the late William Joseph and Rhoda Oliver. Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker and a diary farmer and she loved sports, particularly softball. She was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Bowers is survived by her husband, Jay N. Bowers of the home to whom she was married for 67 years; six daughters and four sons-in-law, JoAnn and Avery Hess of Gray, GA; Betty Brewer of Roan Mountain; Margaret Wolfe of Elizabethton; Linda and Jerry Lunceford, Elizabethton; Dorothy and Brent Williams, Johnson City; Wanda and Mike Dougherty, Mt. Carmel, TN; three sons and two daughters-in-law, J.C. and Roberta Bowers, Elizabethton; Frank and Sherie Bowers of Attica, MI ; James Bowers, Elizabethton; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister Lula Jane Bouton, Alton, IL; and two special care givers, Carrie Garland and Melissa DeLavega. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Funeral service for Mrs. Bowers will be conducted on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 8:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with the Rev. Bobby Stout and Rev. Jerry Honeycutt officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Pleasant Beach Quartet and Greg and Tammy Ruston. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, January 22, 2007 in the Scalf Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Active pallbearers will be selected from her grandsons and her grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and her friends and neighbors.
