Sylvia Etta Patterson Gearheart, 88, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Sylvia was born November 8, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of John Clarence Patterson and Sylvia Siddoway Harries Patterson. She attended elementary school in Salt Lake City and Spanish Fork Utah. The family moved to Idaho Falls where she attended junior high and high school. They returned to Salt Lake where she graduated from East High School. She married Clell Haynes Gearheart on August 17, 1951, in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. They made their home in Othello, Washington where Sylvia taught school and Haynes was in agriculture. She served on the Board of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Genealogy was one of her loves and hobbies. With her husband they served five L.D.S. missions, Pakistan, the Humanitarian Service Center in Salt Lake City, Sri Lanka, London, England, and the Utah State Archive and Records Service in Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret, husband Clell Haynes Gearheart, and son, Samuel Clell.
Family graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Sugar City Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.
