Although Jon Arnott was born in Ohio, he completed grade school and high school in Monticello, Indiana.

After graduation in 1961, he entered Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, like his father had done before him. Jon was in the School of Animal Science Pre Veterinary Medicine and graduated from Purdue with a double major in Animal Science and Agronomy. He then pursued a master's degree in 1966, also at Purdue.

Jon initially worked for Eli Lilly (Elanco) in October of 1966 in their Animal Science Veterinary Division and was subsequently promoted in 1972 to National Accounts Manager in the Eli Lilly home office where he worked with the home offices of Cargill and Supersweet Feed companies.

On May 18th 1968, he married Jan L. Howkinson at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monticello, Indiana. Jan was the love of his life and they spent many happy years together. As Jon always said, she was his "motivation and heartbeat."

In 1974 he entered marketing with Elanco where he was responsible for all veterinary products. He traveled extensively throughout the US while in this position.

In 1978 he was transferred to the Ag Chem Division of Eli Lilly. He and Jan relocated from Mt. Carmel, Illinois back to Monticello, Indiana. After moving several times, it was a dream come true to move back home and develop some roots. Jon finished his career of 41 years with Eli Lilly (Elanco) in the Ag Chem Division in 2007.

Jon and Jan were blessed with two sons, Jeff L. Arnott and J.R. Arnott. They are both 4th generation Purdue graduates. Jeff is employed by Bayer Pharm in their Ag Chem Division and lives in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. J.R. works for Medtronic in the medical implant field and lives in Peoria, IL.

Jon and Jan have four grandchildren, Lane and Drew Arnott, children of Jeff and Page Arnott and Tess and Luke Arnott, children of J.R. and Michelle Arnott.

When Jon was younger, he loved to hunt for arrowheads, especially along streams in
Indiana and Ohio where American Indians once lived. One of my prized possessions is an almost perfect arrowhead which he gave me (see attached pictures).

Jon was very much an outdoors person and shot extensively in the stop and shoot sports. He loved to hunt and fish as well as to take pictures of wildlife and did so frequently as a young person. He belonged to Ducks Unlimited, SAFE, Pheasants Forever, Turkey Federation, Quails Unlimited and NRA. He was an eight year member of the Twin Lakes School Board, Kiwanis and Purdue Alumni Association. Jon also enjoyed playing golf and spent many years trying to become a good player, but finally settled for just having fun. He and Jan played best ball with other couples which made the game a lot easier, and more fun.

He raised three labs, Decoy, Boomer and Winchester and had endless hours of fun hunting with them. He always said I hope to be with them again someday.

Jon loved his wife of fifty years, his children and clearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up. He said he was lucky enough to have the best wife a man could ask for and he could leave this life knowing she is the heartbeat of the family and everything will be ok. “God bless my family and all the wonderful people who brought pleasure into my life. I hope I have brought some pleasure into others. Until we meet again…” Jon Arnott

Jon was cremated and his remains placed in a beautiful wood box which he
created himself. At the time he said, "JAN and I are going to be cremated at death. Thought I would take some time and make some cremains boxes. Neither one of is in a big hurry to fill them. LOL"

He died at 8 p.m. on June 4, 2018. Burial of his remains are planned for Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

So many great memories of being together with my cousin, Jon, his sister Judy, and their parents, Larry and Loretta, over the Christmas holidays both at our house in Illinois and at their home in Indiana. As we grew older we enjoyed sharing our woodworking creations and our love of Corvettes.
