Killed in action in World War I off the coast of Norway. His body washed up on a beach in Norway and was buried in the Eivindvik village cemetery (Gulen (Eivindvik), Eivinvik Gulen kommune, Sogn og Fjordane fylke, Norway) by the Norwegians who found it.
In 1961 his body was removed and reburied in the FREDRIKSTAD MILITARY CEMETERY by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in cooperation with the governments of the UK and Norway.
