She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice "Mossy" J. Barrett Jr., and by her daughter, Sharon Barrett Baldwin.
Born Adele T. Cox on Oct. 25, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., Adele had a distinguished career as an educator until she retired from teaching in 1970. Following a brief tenure as a real estate agent, Adele decided, at the age of 50, to return to school, earning a nursing degree at Old Dominion University. Subsequently, she worked as a nurse at Norfolk General Hospital until 1984. When she and Mossy retired, they moved to the Fredericksburg area. Adele's husband died in 1992.
She is survived by four children, Michael J. Barrett (Robin) of Fredericksburg, Shawn P. Barrett of Baton Rouge, La., Eileen Barrett Cox (P. Stuart) of Richmond and Shannon Barrett Cutler (Floyd aka "Buddy") of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
