It is believed that Leander's true surname was SMITH. And that his parents were Hiram Jack and Miranda (Cassel) SMITH. Apparently, after he grew up, Leander SMITH was running from the law back in West Virginia(?), came west to Washington state between 1914 & 1923, changing his name to Hallie Lee ALLEN before he married Mrs. Lenore (Davis) Hanson in about 1923. Leander also changed his true year of birth of 1890 .... to 1896. Further, it's thought that he had been married before. That his first wife was Catherine Cassie Howard, born about 1892 in KY, and they had a son together, named Hawley Smith, who was born about 1914 in KY. Leander and Catherine were divorced before the 1920 census.
